At LegalZoo, accessible from https://legalzoo.in, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors and users. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by LegalZoo and how we use it.

Google API Services User Data Policy & Limited Use Compliance

The use and transfer of raw or derived user data received from Google Workspace APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Data Retention & Deletion Policy
  • Data Retention: We only retain Google Calendar access credentials, authentication tokens, and sync configurations for as long as your account is active and the Google Calendar integration is connected. We retain the connected Google account identity and the identifiers of hearing events managed by LegalZoo. Event mappings can remain after disconnecting to prevent duplicate hearings if you reconnect the same Google account; they are removed when you delete the associated case or LegalZoo account. We do not keep copies of your unrelated calendar events.
  • Data Deletion & Revocation: You can disconnect the Google Calendar integration at any time through the Vault Dashboard. Removing the account requires your LegalZoo security key and deletes its stored OAuth tokens from our active database. It stops further automatic sync; a Google request already in progress may finish. Existing events remain in your Google Calendar. You can also revoke LegalZoo access in your Google Account permissions. Copies in protected server backups follow the backup retention policy.
  • Account Deletion: If you wish to delete your entire LegalZoo account and all associated Google user data permanently, you can submit a deletion request by emailing us at support@legalzoo.in. All personal information and Google user data will be permanently deleted from our databases within 24 hours of receiving the request.
AI Integration & Data Isolation Policy

LegalZoo integrates with standard compliant third-party AI services, specifically the Google Gemini API, to power the Virtual Courtroom Simulator and Quick Consult Copilot features. Strict Data Isolation: We guarantee that no user data or information obtained via Google Workspace APIs is ever transferred to, shared with, or processed by these AI services. The AI features only process user-provided case briefs or PDF document uploads that you manually upload to the simulator or copilot.

1. Data Collection

We collect several different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our service to you:

  • Personal Data: While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you, including your name, email address, and professional credentials.
  • Case and Court Data: We retrieve case status, next hearing dates, petitioner, respondent, and order history from eCourts on your behalf to assist in case management.
  • Google Account Information: If you choose to sync your hearings with Google Calendar, we will request access to your Google Calendar details via OAuth. We only request the scope necessary to create and manage the specific calendar events representing your court hearings.

2. How We Use Your Data

LegalZoo uses the collected data for various purposes, primarily to streamline your legal practice:

  • To provide, maintain, and monitor the performance of our Service.
  • To notify you about changes to our Service or case status updates.
  • Calendar Syncing: When you connect your Google Calendar, we automatically sync your next hearing dates, case details, and reminders directly to your primary calendar, helping you stay updated on upcoming court listings.
  • To provide customer support and detect, prevent, and address technical issues.

3. Data Security

The security of your data is of paramount importance to us. We implement industry-standard administrative, physical, and technical measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. The production website uses HTTPS for data in transit. Google Calendar tokens are encrypted in the active database using a key derived from the server session secret. Case records are not all encrypted at rest; protection also depends on server access controls, key protection and hosting configuration. However, please note that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

4. Third-Party Access

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your Personal Data to outside parties. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may share data when required by law or to comply with valid legal processes.

Furthermore, Google User Data is processed exclusively to enable the calendar sync feature. We do NOT share, transfer, or disclose any data retrieved from Google APIs with third-party tools, ad platforms, or external databases, except as strictly required to provide our core service and as outlined in the Google API Services User Data Policy Compliance section above.

4.1 AI Processing & Data Protection

When you use our AI features (Virtual Courtroom Simulator or Quick Consult Copilot) and upload case briefs or PDF files, these documents are processed transiently to generate legal summaries and courtroom debate scenarios. We process this information securely through our isolated cloud endpoints. We do not use your proprietary legal briefs, case strategies, or document uploads to train public AI models, nor are they shared with any third-party advertisers or unauthorized external entities.

4.2 Court Data, Payments & Service Providers

We retrieve publicly available case information from official court websites on your behalf, for the cases you add.

We share only what each task needs with these categories of service providers:

  • Payment processor (Razorpay): to take subscription payments. We never see or store your full card or UPI details.
  • Email delivery: to send sign-in codes and hearing alerts.
  • Messaging provider (WhatsApp Business): to send case alerts, only if you add your number and agree.
  • AI service (Google Gemini): to phrase Case Assistant answers from your case record. Answers are checked against the record before you see them.

4.3 WhatsApp Alerts (Optional)

If you add a mobile number and tick the consent box, we store the number, the exact consent wording you agreed to and the time you agreed. You can remove the number from Account & Plan at any time and alerts stop immediately; you can also reply STOP to any alert.

4.4 Retention & Your Rights

  • Your cases, saved orders and diary are kept while your account exists. They are never deleted because of non-payment; an unpaid account becomes read-only.
  • When you delete a case or ask us to delete your account, that data is removed. Payment receipts are kept as long as the law requires for financial records.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal data, and withdraw any consent you gave, by writing to the Grievance Officer below.
